Importance of a Statement of Purpose

In Australia, SOP is a very important document for determining acceptance/rejection of applicants for offers as well as visas. A Statement of Purpose or SOPĀ is basically a word documents, stating your reasons for study in a particular course, university and country. Educational Background: Details of SSC, HSC, graduation and post-graduation including aggregate scores, years of completion, and boards/universities should be mentioned in this section.

Work Experience details: Details of the applicantā€™s work experiences including companies he has worked with, designations, salaries work responsibilities, and dates of joining and leaving the jobs should be mentioned in this section.

  • If his program is offered in India, why doesnā€™t he want to study it in India?
  • How is the education system in Australia different from that of India and how will this benefit him?

Reasons for choosing to study in Australia

  • What research has he done into other countries that have led him to choose Australia as his study destination?
  • How will studying in Australia benefit his future?

Reasons for choosing to study in the preferred university: Comparison of the preferred university with other universities in Australia in terms of ranking, scholarships, tuition fee, facilities, etc, and reasons for choosing the preferred university over other universities.

Future plans and job prospects after completion of the course

  • Which companies does he expect to work with after completion of his studies?
  • Which designations does he expect to work at after completion of his studies?
  • How much does he expect his salary to be after he completes his degree in Australia?
  • Why is studying in Australia a good investment for his future?

Living Arrangements: Where does the applicant intend to live in Australia? What will be the budget for his accommodation?

Total Costs and Details of Sponsors

  • Total cost of education including tuition fee, living expenses, OSHC, and other expenses
  • What provision does the applicant have to fund his study and living expenses in Australia?
