IELTS Writing Task 2
Governments should spend money on railways rather than Government roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement Comment below?Pollution, population and its vaulting demands in the complex times have hit an all-time high and so has transportation. With China’s success of high speed rails, it is natural to assert that the national funds be allocated for railways. However, to assert that all nations follow the same pattern and that too with total disregard to roads is objectionable. I, therefore, agree with the contention, but only partly.
Railways being the life line of the nation on which the robustness of the nation’s economy is dependent, it’s prominent place in the budget is justifiable. An efficient, speedy, environmental friendly, energy efficient, economical and secure means of inland travel, it is today, indeed, the only panacea to many of our problems associated with travel and freighting. As such it deservedly earns a respectable place for itself in the nation’s expenditure.
However, railways is not without limitations. In places like the remotest rural areas, the deserts, the hills and the swamps railways are either an impossibility or are way beyond the budget of a nation. It is here that the roads come to our rescue. Not just this, the railways themselves are helpless without the link, the roads. Is there then any wisdom in pumping in all the country’s money on railways?
Clearly, each has its own place in the system and accordingly, needs to be constructed, maintained and upgraded from time to time. The nation’s expenditure, therefore, instead of being solely reserved for railways should be judiciously divided between the two.
